weekly r.e.p.o.r.t

It’s only my third post and I am already posting non-cooking content. So, maybe this is more of a lifestyle blog? While cooking is an important topic and the main one I am looking into exploring, I have other things on my mind.

I’ve seen this acronym floating around tik tok that I quite enjoy:

“Report stands for what you’re reading, eating, playing, obsessing, recommending, and treating yourself to”. I thought it might be fun to do a weekly report. In the days that I used tumblr, I always enjoyed being able to look at the archive of my posts, categorized by month, as somewhat of a journal of the things I was doing and thinking and interested in at the time that I posted them. I am hoping this will do the same!

Okay, January 26, 2025:
R
(eading) – Babel by R.F. Kuang

some cool art I found on Pinterest, inspired by Babel

E(ating) – Thai chicken curry with coconut jasmine rice; pomegranate lemonade
P(laying) – playing around with starting this blog. I’ve seen a few other people use wordpress on tik tok and I am thinking of reaching out to them to make some connections!
O(bsessing) – spring. The prospect of spring. I am packing away my Christmas decorations and searching for ways to thrift new household items for a spring refresh. Here are some of my images of inspiration:

R(ecommend) – innisfree hand cream. In these dry months, it is necessary. Innisfree doesn’t seem to have the specific ones that I have, as I received them as a Christmas gift last year, but they are amazing. Not too heavyweight, while still making my hands feel very moisturized.
T(reating) – Books and records! Today was a very treat-yourself day. I went to my local used bookstore today and got these two books:

And then I went to Barnes & Noble because I had a gift card and was looking to purchase “The Stolen Queen” by Fiona Davis, but they didn’t have it in stock! Instead I stumbled upon this vinyl from one of my favorite movies:

I am planning on going to Target tonight to get “The Stolen Queen” with the last of my gift cards. Along with some fresh flowers to continue my personal, stubborn push into spring.

Cheers!

where to start

January 25, 2025

Well, my first post was over a year ago, so, not off to a great start. Haha! Have you ever heard of the idea of picking a word to be your theme each year? I have a list going of my options, even though we’re well into 2025.

  • create
  • action
  • growing
  • fruition
  • meaning
  • nourishing
  • purposeful
  • learning
  • supportive
  • quality

I have yet to pick one, but I like looking at the list, so I must be on the right track.

As I was looking into the year of 2025, I had the goal to re-visit this blog as a creative outlet. With the theme being my exploration of food and cooking, I wanted to create a list of topics that I wanted to dive into for later posts and to guide my exploration. Here is my list so far:

  • Wooden utensil care
  • Trying out new recipes
    • My family’s multi-generational cookbook
    • My mom’s recipe box
    • New dishes my partner and I would like to try
  • Who inspires me in the cooking/cooking influencer world?
  • Baking
  • How to make cooking more enjoyable
    • Kitchen layout
    • Kitchen supplies
    • Where do I learn more skills to aid in this topic (i.e. mise en place, which I think I learned from Bon Appètit test kitchen – r.i.p.)
  • Hosting – how to begin
  • Aiming to nourish myself with more nutrients for a healthy life
  • Learning cultural food practices
  • Gardening
  • Learning about various cooking tools
  • Photography, for documenting my journey along the way

That’s about all that I can think of right now. I am happy to put this all in writing and I will attempt to pick my first topic of exploration here soon. Cheers!

August 4, 2023

Hello. I guess I am going to start a blog. I have been looking for a way to journal and express my thoughts in this very weird age of social media. And as I have been musing in my brain about what to do with my life, I realized that a lot of the content that I consume and find refreshing and fascinating, has to do with food. The thing is… I hate cooking. Like, with a passion. It feels overwhelming and frustrating and disappointing. But, we all have to feed ourselves in our lifetime. And I think it would be very nice to eventually be skilled at feeding other people as well. So, this is my way to chronicle my thoughts around food. Some things already swirling around in my brain are…

  1. How to eat healthily and why do I want to do that?
  2. The influencer and social media era and “do I need a better kitchen for this?
  3. Why do hate cooking but love to watch food content (a la Wishbone Kitchen, The Bear, and the glory days of Bon Appétit test kitchen)?

I don’t have anything “keeping me on track” like posting a recipe I try every day, because I don’t think my brain works like that. I guess I hope to use this blog as a dedicated space to express and explore my thoughts around cooking and eating. And maybe to find others who wonder the same things that I do. Cheers!
